How It Works

Led by people with lived experience of homelessness and poverty, Activate! IFC spearheads projects aimed at confronting the root causes of poverty. Shelter residents and members of IFC’s programs engage in low-barrier opportunities for advocacy, civic engagement, and leadership development through community-building activities, training, events, marches, and rallies.

Advocacy priorities are chosen by Activate members based on their own life challenges. As a result of their leadership in Activate, many members move from passive community engagement to volunteering, becoming involved with local community groups, or serving on advisory or governance boards.
