Street Outreach
Real Change from Spare Change is a community-wide, collaborative
initiative designed to educate, encourage, and empower Chapel Hill and Carrboro citizens, and the UNC community to evoke real
change for those in need.
There is a better way to help! Giving to street people is a band-aid approach to helping. Often street people are perceived
as having an immediate need for cash to buy food, shelter and services. In reality, free food, shelter and services are available in our
community. Giving to Real Change from Spare Change insures
that your money is matched to the true need by funding qualified, professionals who address the true causes of homelessness.
Have you seen, met or are you a street person who may need assistance? Contact a Street Outreach Worker! The IFC is proud to
partner with Housing for New Hope to provide street outreach to those in need.
Street Outreach workers are a direct result of the Real Change from Spare Change Initiative.
Can you give some
time to the IFC? Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. IFC
currently needs more individuals to help us to offer emergency shelter, food and crisis intervention
services for eligible clients and households.
Thank you for your generous food donations during the Holiday Season! During January and February our food contributions begin to slow. Our food pantry now works on a walk-in basis, and we are seeing more people than before we began our walk-in system. Please consider helping to carry us through the winter months!
A good technique to begin with is the "Buy One, GIVE One Free" method. If there is a "Buy One, Get One Free" item, consider donating the free item. Of course, you can always donate more!
You can bring the items to our Food Pantry in the Carrboro Services Building located at 110 W. Main St., Carrboro, NC 27510 between 9am and 5pm, Monday-Friday.
On May 10th , Campbell Soup Company and The United States
Postal Service are partnering once again with the National Association of Letter Carriers to
sponsor "Stamp Out Hunger (TM)" the "nation's largest single-day food drive". Your participation in this cause is
instrumental to its success.
How Can You Help?
1. Place bags filled with nonperishable food items next to your mailbox.
2. Your letter carrier will pick them up and deliver them to local food banks!
